About the Farm

Picture
Longfeather Lane was officially established in October of 2012. The farm's founder, Kedreeva, had been boarding peafowl at a friend's farm since 2009, and finally found the perfect location: a farmhouse with a large barn, situated on 8+ acres, bordering forest and farmland in southeast Michigan.
Longfeather Lane is home to over a dozen permanent-resident peafowl, including multiple daughters of one of Kedreeva's founding flock members, Aurora. Construction on their pens began as soon as the house closed, and the first birds moved in a few weeks later. The last pen, a 1000sq/ft flight pen, finished construction in 2022.

While our focus for the last decade has been leucistic purples, we do occasionally have blue pieds or whites available, and in March of 2024, a very special boy joined us: Earl, who carries the European Violet mutation, all the way from Europe! We hope to offer the first EV chicks from our birds in late 2026!

Our journey with coturnix quail began early in 2021, with the arrival of two dozen 100% celadon eggs. Although we faced a rocky beginning, our Celadons have become large, robust birds laying eggs that rival our jumbos! Since starting with the celadons, we've expanded to wild type (actual wild type, not the more common sex-linked brown), and are looking to remove all color mutations from our celadons, in order to have a nice wild type line for outcrossing new colors!

Sark builds all of our coturnix enclosures from scratch!

We have a lot planned for our bloodlines, so keep an eye out!

Our journey with mice began a lot earlier, all the way back to high school 20+ years ago when we had our first pet mice, brought home from a laboratory, back when labs still did that kind of thing.

After falling in love, Kedreeva ended up working professionally with mice for 12 years in a laboratory setting, during which time her favorite variety - siamese! - fell into her lap, and the deal was sealed. She spent years working with multiple varieties, including Siamese in seal, chocolate, and blue point, as well as self black, splash (in multiple colors), lavender/lilac (in multiple patterns), and both standard short hair and satin coats. In the course of working with the siamese, Kedreeva honed a line of self-black mice from feeder-quality animals, and fell in love. After scaling back the mousery in early 2026, the self-black line is the only remaining line.

We've been breeding pet-type mice with an eye toward temperament on and off since the summer of 2013, and have enjoyed every minute of it!
